Message to new families from Foundation President:

Welcome to the Academy program at Los Penasquitos Elementary!

The Los Pen Academy Foundation (LPAF) Board is very excited to have you join our program.  As new Academy families you are also a member of LPAF.  This membership is an easy one as there are no dues to pay and no required participation.

The purpose and mission of the Los Pen Academy Foundation is to financially support the academic goals of the Los Penasquitos Academy.  As was stated at the information night you attended, the Academy is free for all to attend.  You will never be asked for tuition money or fees of any kind.  The program costs $60,000 to operate and does not pay for itself.  This is why the Foundation was created, to help with the financial burden of keeping the Academy operating.

The Foundation has a Board that meets monthly, currently 5:30 pm on the second Thursday of the month.  We actively seek grants and private donations and organize fundraisers for the community and our families.  All participation is completely voluntary and up to each family how they choose to participate.  Some of the fundraisers we will be having this next year include:

  • Spring Fling:  (This year’s is coming up on May 8th!) We will have raffles, a silent auction, food, and lots of activities for the whole family. This is a great chance to meet the teachers and other families of the Academy.
  • Rummage Sales: two or three a year. You can donate items or volunteer to work.
  • Fun Run: A fun race (5K) registration is $40 for family of four or individually priced.
  • Originalworks Art Program: Your child will complete a piece of art and you can purchase items (dollar range $5-$50) with your child’s art on them.

 The Board understands that the economic times are difficult for everyone. In response we are combining some of our fundraisers with the PTA to cut back on how much is asked of our families.

Academy School Year 2009-2010

The academy will begin August 3, 2009.  The summer session will end August 12th (8 day summer session).  Academy classes will resume August 18th. 

Hours:  M, T, TH, F - 8:00am to 3:00pm, W - 8:00am to 2:00pm

Recruitment for the academy is April 14 and 15, 2009

Contract signing is April 27-30

Los Pen Academy Web Site

The Academy Foundation is proud to sponsor the new B.E.A.R.S. t-shirts!  The B.E.A.R.S. t-shirt was the idea of our wonderful teachers. There are three ways kids can earn a shirt:
  1. Earning an Honor Roll or Persistence Award

  2. Being voted by their peers for BEAR of the Week

  3. Have in their possession three or more Porch Passes

Shirts are worn every Wednesday and on Field Trips.  There are a limited number of shirts available in adult sizes for parents to purchase.  The cost is $10.00.  Contact Mr. Bayro if you are interested.
